Spiral Strand
This construction consists of layers of round wires helically spun together in a similar manner to the locked coil rope, but, owing to the round wire as opposed to the 'Z' shaped wires, has slightly lower modulus and fill factor values than the locked coil rope. Nevertheless, it still has good modulus, axial stiffness and tension-tension fatigue properties which, combined with its greater flexibility, render this a very versatile and popular construction for structural applications.
